Introduction

Celebrating. Commemorating. Continuing.

At Moses Taylor Foundation, we’re proud to recognize our 10-year anniversary – commemorating being established from the sale of Moses Taylor Health Care System to Community Health Systems. This report features key 10-year milestones, reflections on what makes us proud, and highlights of how we’ve advanced our mission through key initiatives and grantmaking. We also share an update on what’s ahead.

Letter

from our president and CEO

2022 was a year of great change and accomplishment – both for Moses Taylor Foundation and for me, personally. I moved from North Carolina to Northeastern Pennsylvania to join the Foundation, which was celebrating its 10-year anniversary. During its first decade, the Foundation approved 403 grants totaling more than $26 million to organizations throughout our 11-county region. From supporting school nurses and older adults to strengthening nonprofit organizations and responding to community needs, the Foundation demonstrated its commitment to improving the health of people living in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

I’ve spent much of the past year reflecting on the organization’s accomplishments of the previous decade – the relationships built and the lives positively impacted. In my introductory video, I shared my intent to build upon the strong reputation and nonprofit relationships already in place at the Foundation by understanding current community assets and identifying new opportunities. I am tremendously appreciative of the welcome I received and the existing partnerships being strengthened and new ones being created.

2023 officially marks the last year of the Foundation’s current five-year strategic plan. The plan laid out ambitious goals – some of which have been met, in part or whole, and others that were revised as a result of COVID-19. I’m proud of how the Foundation responded during the pandemic, taking on new work to address emerging needs and adjusting existing work when necessary. It is this type of emergent approach that will continue as we enter into our next phase as an organization.

During the coming months, the Board and staff will take time to collectively reflect on the current plan and determine how we can best meet our mission moving forward. There is still much to be accomplished in our current areas of focus as well as potential to address new areas of opportunity. I look ahead to the next 10 years with great anticipation for all we can achieve together.

Sincerely,

Danielle Breslin
