Grantee submission by: Laura Toole, Executive Vice President

How did the funding or non-monetary support you received from the Foundation impact your organization and/or the community?

Through multiple grant awards the Moses Taylor Foundation has provided critical support to the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute Community-Based Cancer Screening Navigation Program. From program support that has helped facilitate the completion of over 8500 potentially live saving cancer screenings; to assistance in securing a consultant to conduct a comprehensive program evaluation identifying areas of strength to build upon as well as ways to improve program efficiencies; to supporting the development and distribution of a COVID vaccination brochure (distributed to thousands) outlining vax myths/facts and how to access during a critical juncture of the pandemic, the Foundation has been ceaselessly responsive to the needs of small non-profits.

Share a quote or anecdotal story from a client or employee of your organization that illustrates the impact of your work.

Numerous Navigation Screening Program participants have shared how the Program helped with completing their cancer screenings: “Your calls helped remind me to get screening when I kept putting it off.” “I didn’t have a ride to get to my (screening) appointment and you helped get me there.” “I have a family history of colon cancer and was putting off getting screened…I was afraid…talking with your staff helped me understand why cancer screening is so important, especially with a family history…I finally got my colon screening, thank you.” “I lost my health insurance recently, the program paid for my screening and the follow up needed…I would not have gotten screened without your help…”

What do you most want the community to know about your work and/or what excites you most about the future of your organization?

The Northeast Regional Cancer Institute has been working in our community to ease the burden of cancer for over 30 years. Working across all health systems and healthcare providers, Cancer Institute Programs provide direct assistance to help individuals complete their cancer screenings and connect those affected by cancer with a variety of regional and national cancer-related resources (coping, financial/insurance, transportation, etc.). We are Your Cancer Compass – here to help guide the way through cancer screenings, diagnosis, and survivorship.
